Summer Camp for Marketers, Only Better and Longer

In my post entitled “Just Say Yes,” I talked about looking for help with learning internet marketing and finding some mentors online. I impulsively signed up for a workshop/conference being held in Las Vegas, and in just a few days, I was THERE!  On the final day, Dr. Jeanette Cates got up and made a very convincing pitch for signing up for a “90-day Intensive Class.”  It would require 2 hours on a webinar/phone call each Wednesday night for teaching, and each Monday night for coaching.  In between Wednesday and Monday, we were supposed to do our “homework.”  Now, I thought I was smart until I got started with some of the technology involved in internet marketing and the biggest challenge was to figure out how it all fits together.

The four women who taught/coached us were very patient and thankfully, there was at least one student who was more challenged than I, so I didn’t feel like I was wearing the dunce hat each week.  Who knows what the instructors were really thinking!  They’re all very gracious and probably we’ll never know.

Well, tonight was the final class – it was a time for us all to “show and tell,” and we did just that – for THREE HOURS on a webinar together.  We looked at our online accomplishments, and our faithful instructors went through our websites and blogs with a fine-toothed comb, giving us their expert comments.

There was a feeling of relief that finally I have Mondays and Wednesdays free to actually get some work done, but the overriding emotion was one of sadness.  Sad that I won’t get to interact with these wonderful gals and other classmates on a regular basis.

When I was a kid, my dad was a pastor, and our denomination had summer camp each year, which I attended for many years.  Even though it was only a week or two, great friendships were made with kids from other locales, and as the end of camp drew near, there were tears, exchanging of addresses and well wishes until next year.  The great thing is that we really did keep up with each other over the years.  In fact, one friend from long ago found me on Facebook tonight.  I haven’t seen or heard from her in almost 30 years.  Ahhh…the beauty of cyberspace!

So, as this “90-Day” summer camp for internet marketers comes to an end, I’ll be anticipating the next time we can be together.  I’m pretty good about keeping up with folks, and any of you who are reading this, please take me seriously…keep in touch with me.  I value your friendships.

To our instructors…Connie Ragen Green, Dr. Jeanette Cates, Suzan Schmitt, and Lisa Suttora — a great big cyber-hug and THANK YOU!

Your Ever-Learning Student,
