Secrets of a Very Rich Man

I love the story of King Solomon, who lived in the 10th Century.  He reigned for over 40 years, a long time for an ancient King.  He’s remembered for his great wisdom, credited with writing several books of the Bible, including Proverbs, a book of pithy short sayings, full of wisdom even by today’s standards.  That being said, he’s also known as one of the richest men who ever lived.  Let’s take a look at some of the characteristics of this famous figure.

First, let me say that Solomon wasn’t perfect, but he WAS productive.

1.  He was an uncommon achiever.  In 1929, the Illinois Society of Architects conducted research into the building of Solomon’s Temple.  That was more than 80 years ago, and they placed a value on it of $87 Billion.  Yep…that’s billion with a B.  If you add in inflation over the years, it would probably be valued today at more than $500 Billion.  This was no small task.  And this didn’t even include his own palace or other real estate holdings.  Makes Donald Trump look like a pauper.

2.  His life included failure and insecurity.  He knew his own limitations and spoke openly of being overwhelmed.  (I Kings 3:7, 9)

3.  He was a dreamer who developed a passion for what he wanted.  That passion turned into power and focus, which resulted in the fulfillment of a dream.

But what was the real key?  I’ve known dreamers, passionate people, even powerful people, but they weren’t necessarily successful people.  I’ll let you in on the secret to Solomon’s greatness…it was his unquenchable thirst for knowledge and wisdom.

To have a dream isn’t enough.

To have power isn’t enough

To have goals isn’t enough.

We MUST have a hunger and thirst for truth, knowledge and wisdom.  When we seek, we will find.
